Washburn Class
Ribble Class Learning Journey 2019-2020
27th February 2020
This half term, we have visited the Media Museum in Bradford where we watched an IMAX film about rocket launches in space. We also had a workshop about the different planets - we had a great day! Mrs Young bought us all some popcorn and Mrs Tierney bought us all a fruit sweet to have during the film.
We are now planning and baking bread in DT which we are loving - especially the taste testing!
In English, we are writing persuasive letters about refugees and had a visit from a refugee (actress).

New Term
We have started our new term after Christmas really well with brilliant attitudes. In the last week of the last term, we invited our parents in for our VE day party - it was a great success! We ate the scones we made earlier in the week (using a wartime recipe), shared our WW2 work, sang a war song to our parents and played a WW2 quiz! We had a great time.
This week, we have been writing poetry linked to our new topic - Space.

End of term
We are almost at the end of our first term in year 5. This half term we have been learning about World War II and have had such fun doing so! We even had a special visitor in, Annabel, who brought lots of war artefacts for us to see and use.
Next Thursday we have invited our parents in for a special VE day celebration party.
23rd October 2019
Shakespeare
We have been so busy these past few weeks. We performed our amazing Shakespeare play of A Midsummer Night's Dream on a theatre stage in Leeds on Monday night to a paying audience.
Poppies
We have also been making poppies to be displayed in Leeds City Centre in Kirkgate Market. These will be up for remembrance day. Why not take a visit and see if you can spot your artwork?
Modern Slavery Workshop
Today, we also took part in a Modern Slavery workshop in school. Lucy came to visit us and she was great! We did some drama around modern slavery and we feel confident in spotting the signs.
Maths
Last week, we completed a treasure hunt in maths. We were meant to do it outside but the weather had other ideas for us!
7th October 2019
We are very lucky that Mrs Tierney, our higher level teaching assistant, runs a book club during Monday break times. We can choose to attend during our play time; Mrs Tierney sometimes reads the book to us and sometimes we read too. We really enjoy having the opportunity to read a range of books we find interesting.

30th September 2019
We have been writing stories about The Highwayman - a text we have been reading during our English lessons. We have really enjoyed reading this particular text and then writing our own versions. Ask us all about it - we will happily share our knowledge.
We have also been very busy rehearsing for our Shakespeare production on a theatre stage in just 3 weeks!
During class discussions, we have also been talking about what makes us British and how we can treat everybody equally irrespective of our differences.
13th September 2019
Ribble class have settled in really well. They have enjoyed coding a maze during computing this week.
A typical day in Ribble Class
We usually do reading, writing and maths on a morning except for Mondays where we have keyboards with our music teacher and Thursdays when we have PE with our Sports Teacher - Mr Anderson.
On Mondays we learn Spanish in the afternoons with Mrs Woodward.
During the rest of the week, we will be geographers, historians, scientists, artists, musicians, computer scientists and model citizens of Valley View and Britain.
