Rother Class

10 July

Our trip to Leeds Cathedral was very interesting.  We listened to a musical performance and then looked at how an organ works.

12 June

Getting ready to investigate, research and then make bread, we tasted various types of bread  - naan, baguette, Polish Rye, Old English White, pitta and more. We described the look, smell texture and taste.

16 May

What a great time we had in Whitby.  The weather was amazing, the views were fantastic and we all had a wonderful time.

6 May

Getting ready for  Whitby, we made a model to examine coastal erosion.

21 April

We looked at using various processes that separate different materials that have been mixed together - filtering, evaporation, sieving and magnetism.

15 February

We have continued our fraction work and applied it to making lava lamps.  We had to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, simplify fractions using factors as well as measure water and oil accurately. It was a great success.

1 February

We are currently learning about equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions and took our learning outside for an equivalent fraction hunt.  Great team work in the crisp cold weather.

10 January

Happy New Year!  We have started badminton with PE teachers from Leeds West Academy. We had to complete various challenges looking at balance, control and hand placement.

16 November 2018

As part of our work on square numbers, we have created model dinosaurs.  The challenge was to make them using only the square numbers , 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64 and 81.

26th October 2018

In art, we have been inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kasuma.  She uses vibrant colours and dots to create patterns and 3D effects.

28th September 2018

We have started the challenge of running "A Km A Day".  This is where we head out on to the field and aim to run a whole kilometer without walking.  So far the children are doing really well and are enjoying it a great deal.  We are going to record our times and compare them to the end of the year results.
