Ribble Class

Thursday 11th July 2019

This week we visited Leeds Cathedral. We listened to a concert played on the church organ and had a go on a special instrument called a WOOFYT!

Friday 21st June

Ribble have started their 'Bread' topic this week and we've begun by tasting different types of bread. We thought about their smell, their texture and of course - their taste! Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring how bread is made, where it comes from and will be designing our own loaf.

Friday 24th May

This week Ribble had a fantastic time in Whitby. The weather enabled the children to enjoy a lot of time on the beach, around the town and exploring the abbey. Their behaviour was exemplary and we are all very proud of them!

Have a look at a few of our photos.

Friday 10th May

This week has been all about the legend of Dracula in preparation for a our trip to Whitby. We have used different writing techniques to build up tension and have then used Scratch to cue sound effects to be used when performing our writing. See the short clip below!

We've also been imagining what life might be like to live with Dracula and have learned how to withhold information in our writing to give the reader clues.

Thursday 25th April

Following on from our plant dissection, we have looked this week at how flowering plants reproduce. We have explored the role of the different parts of the flower and how bees and insects are important to pollination. This photo is of Ribble playing a game that represented the pollination of a flower.

Thursday 28th March

This week Ribble have been dissecting the parts of a flowering plant and looking carefully at how plants reproduce to find new plants. We've also begun to research famous naturalists such as David Attenborough and Steve Backshall.

Friday 1st March

Ribble have been making the most of this unusual February weather by going outside to complete some of their maths learning! We've been searching the playground for some tricky maths problems involving subtracting fractions and working together to solve them.

Thursday 10th January

Ribble have enjoyed devising their own 'wake-up, shake-up' routines over the last couple of weeks in PE. We have practised common moves and then linked them together in a sequence.

Friday 16th November

Today Year 5 have enjoyed a visit from some local firefighters. They talked to us about fire safety in the home and shared some top tips about what to do in the event of a fire. Unfortunately however, they were called out to a fire during a talk and had to leave quickly!

Thursday 11th October

Ribble have enjoyed studying 'Beowulf', a story about a savage beast who terrorized an Anglo Saxon village. This week we have produced some artwork based on the story. Here are a couple of examples.

Thursday 27th September

Ribble have had a fantastic morning at The Carriageworks Theatre taking part in a workshop with staff from Shakespeare Schools Festival. We performed a short section of Macbeth and then developed the scene together. Our excitement is building with just three weeks to go!
