Crimple Class 2017-2018

5 July 2018

What a great week we've had. This week the children in Crimple Class have visited their new classroom and met their new Year 2 teacher, Mrs McMurrough. They have really enjoyed transition and are now very excited about next year.

On Wednesday the children took part in our annual sports day event. All of them were excellent and showed great sportsmanship. Many were resilient when their races didn't quite go to plan. They should all be very proud of their efforts and achievements.

The children were also given the opportunity to listen to some high quality music this week. The Year 6 cornets teacher came to visit and did a lovely music workshop with the children.

Wow! We had a fantastic day at Skipton Castle. We explored the castle grounds with our tour guides and learnt so much! We saw arrow slits, a spiral staircase, coats of arms and even went into a dungeon! We all enjoyed visiting the dungeon and we were all very brave.

It was a pleasure taking the children to Skipton Castle. They all behaved brilliantly and were a credit to our school. One tour guide even passed on that Valley View were one of the best groups of children he had ever shown around.

They have done some excellent learning on castles in preparation for the trip. We will be exploring the castle grounds and experiencing what life was really like inside a castle! Keep an eye out for photographs of our exciting day out!

This week in Year 1 we had Medieval Day. All the children looked great in their costumes and it was great to see everyone so involved in all the activities. For their DT learning, the children had a go at preparing and cooking medieval pies and spiced pears. In the afternoon, the children then got the chance to try what they had made at the Medieval Banquet. Throughout the day children had a go at creating their own coat of arms, making quills, scroll writing and even had a go at some medieval dancing. It was a fabulous day and everyone had a lot fun!

This week the children in Crimple Class performed their assembly to the whole school and their adults. They were very excited to be given another opportunity to perform. They delivered their lines loudly and clearly, making sure all the audience could hear them. The children were excellent and made all of their teachers extremely proud. It was lovely to see them sharing their learning with such enthusiasm! The children also invited their parents to come back to the classroom to take part in some activities.

Year 1 were fantastic in their performance of 'The Princess and the Pea.' They delivered all of their lines loudly and clearly. Their singing was beautiful and it was lovely to see the smiles on the audiences faces! The children enjoyed performing and really looked the part in their costumes! Well done, Year 1!

22 March 2018

It has been a very busy and exciting term! The children particularly enjoyed the Cricket Workshop, where they learnt new skills and had to work as a team. The children used a range of cricket equipment and had a go at playing different games to better their throwing and catching skills. After the workshop, the children were very excited and said how they want to keep playing cricket!

We have had an amazing week! All of Year 1 went on their first school trip to Abbey House Museum. The children really enjoyed learning about old and new toys, exploring the museum and seeing the Abbey ruins. The children really impressed all the adults, museum staff and other visitors with their manners and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see children asking and answering lots of questions, dressing up and getting involved with the workshop.

Welcome back to school! We love reading in Crimple Class and we have been enjoying our guided reading lessons. We really love listening to stories and looking at all the lovely illustrations. Story time is one of our favourite times of the day. This term we are going to be reading a selection of Traditional Tales in our English lessons. The first tale we will be reading is The Princess and the Pea. We will also have a look at other tales such as, The Elves and the Shoemaker and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

8 February 2018

We have really enjoyed our 'Africa' topic this half term. We have completed our Tinga Tinga artwork and they all look great! We have also enjoyed listening to stories from Africa. We have read, Mama Panya's Pancakes and even wrote our own versions of the story! In our independent learning, we have also enjoyed exploring objects from Africa, including the very big ostrich egg! Most of us had never seen an ostrich egg before and we got very excited when it arrived in our classroom!

25 January 2018

As part of our 'Africa' topic, we have been learning about the artist, Edward Tinga Tinga from Tanzania. We have had a look at some of his pieces of art (Tinga Tinga art) and are now in the process of creating our own Tinga Tinga artwork. We have started by creating a water colour backwash using colours to mimic a sunrise or sunset on the Savannah. We will then be drawing animals and decorating them with patterns using bright coloured paints. Once our animals are complete, we will place them on our backwash.

Christmas has arrived in Crimple Class! We have been really busy decorating our classroom. We have made some festive paper chains, snowflakes, some Christmas trees and robins using a range of different materials and techniques. We also decorated our Christmas Tree with baubles and lights. All the children have also had the opportunity of opening the Class Advent Calendar and seeing what's behind the doors. We have had an excellent term and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year! See you all in 2018!

29 November 2017

We had some visitors from Sweden this term as part of Culture Day. In Crimple Class we learnt all about the United Kingdom and the Union Jack. We did some art work with the goal of creating our own Union Jack. We had to take a small square of card that had codes on it, following the instructions carefully to make sure we knew what colour each code was. When creating our square, we had the option of using a range of materials such as: coloured wool, paint, crayon, pen, pastels, crepe paper and pencils. Once all the squares were complete we had to put them all together like a puzzle. This was our result:

14 November 2017

It is Anti-Bullying week at school and the children have had a go at some activities that focus on being a good friend. Today the children got into partners and thought of some kind words about their partner. They wrote these words and sentences onto a piece of card surrounding a hole where their partner could put their face through. The children came up with some great words to describe their partner!

1 November 2017

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half term holiday and had a good rest. This term our topic is called Woodland Wonderland. We started the week off by learning all about deciduous and evergreen trees. The children were also introduced to the artist, Gustav Klimt. We looked at his painting, 'The tree of life', and even had a go at creating our own. The children had to choose autumnal colours for their piece of art and used swirls similar to the style of Klimt.

This term we have been reading the book 'The tiger who came to tea.' We have really enjoyed reading this story. We have acted out the story in front of a small audience and have even had a go at writing our own 'tiger who came to tea,' story!
